[Info of the lecture] on Jan 13, regional development symposium, ‘Redevelopment and Area renovation’

2018.01.04

Goto will give a lecture for the regional development symposium ‘Redevelopment and Area renovation’ held in Fukui.

(The guidance excerpt)

Renovation and redevelopment are not exact opposite concepts.

We can judge them in a reasonable way depending on the situation of the towns and cities, as well as their future vision. We can also consider the urban spaces by combining two of them. In some regional towns and cities, their populations are decreasing. If we choose redevelopment in a maximum volumetric capacity like we used to do before there, we might cause trouble for the future to operate and maintain the empty spaces. However, if we leave the aging buildings, the cities will never get renewed. Implementing only renovation on the facilities cannot be a solution.

Consider the balance of whole images of the towns and cities and their ideal sceneries, and ask ourselves where Fukui Prefecture should head for. In the discussion, we’ll talk freely and identify various possibilities of the towns and cities for the future.
